The Howard Hughes Corporation® Extends the South Street Seaport’s See/Change Program with Fall Fest
NEW YORK & DALLAS-- The Howard Hughes Corporation (NYSE: HHC) announced today that the South Street Seaport’s popular summer food, film, shopping and cultural programming - SEE/CHANGE - is continuing this season with FALL FEST. Similar to the SEE/CHANGE summer program, FALL FEST will offer fresh, seasonal culinary and cultural activities as part of the Seaport’s ongoing revitalization efforts to recover from Superstorm Sandy and run through the month of October in the historic cobblestone area.
FALL FEST will feature German bakery and bar, LANDBROT,offering authentic cuisine, including bratwurst, pretzels, apple strudels, leberkaese, plum cakes and other treats, along with a tented, heated beer garden. With a permanent location in the West Village, LANDBROT is rooted in the traditional baking traditions of Swabia, a southwestern region of Germany, and follows recipes that were practiced and perfected over 1,200 years ago. In addition to LANDBROT, FALL FEST will also include pop-up retail containers with seasonal merchandise and a pumpkin patch where visitors can carve and decorate Halloween pumpkins.
As part of its fall program, the South Street Seaport will host YOUTHMARKET, a network of urban farm stands operated by neighborhood youth, supplied by local farmers and designed to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to communities throughout New York City. With a revolving lineup of six to ten local farms offering products ranging from collard greens, kale, carrots, juices and more, YOUTHMARKET will be located at Fulton Street near Front Street every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm through November 23, 2013.
Additionally, TASTE OF THE SEAPORT will return for its fourth year on October 27. The day-long event, which benefits enrichment programs at Spruce Street School P.S. 397, will include live music, free children’s activities and showcase tastings from over twenty local restaurants and merchants, including traditional seasonal cuisine from local German, Japanese and American restaurants.
“The launch of the SEE/CHANGE program earlier this summer marked the beginning of a new day at the Seaport as we work to reinvigorate the neighborhood and deliver a dynamic and vibrant destination that both residents and visitors alike can enjoy,” said Phillip St. Pierre, general manager of the South Street Seaport. “We look forward to celebrating the beautiful fall season with everyone.”
FALL FEST will launch on October 9, 2013 and will be open 11am to 11pm daily through October 31, 2013. Weekly FALL FEST entertainment will include DJ sets every Thursday from 4pm to 8pm, live music every Friday from 4pm to 8pm and pumpkin carving demos every Saturday at 2pm.
